As often happens
with short form projects, the use of a specific camera package was
dictated by the producers - in this case, an XL-2 with Red Rock Micro
35mm adapter and Nikor primes. As a result, the look is a bit soft
and dreamy. Quite pleasing, in fact. I
struck for natural and soft lighting throughout. Almost every key
was a bounce off a card, a softbox, or Kino Flo. Where practicals
were in play, I carded them off backgrounds to make talent pop in the
frame. I generally lit for an f4.0 stop in order
to hit the sweet spot of the lenses as often as possible. This
assured the picture wouldn't get any softer than already created by the
DoF adapter and created a nice focal separation between subjects.
