"An unmarried
couple encounters rough times when they each discover the other has a
another lover, but all is not what it seems."

notes: |
I produced
this project as my sophomore short film effort and directorial/writing
debut. Inspired by autobiographical events, the characters are
amalgams of myself and others in my life.
|
|
writing: |
The script was
originally envisioned to tweak audience expectations of relationships.
Upon reflection, the writing as a whole seems a bit static. A
trusted friend, upon being asked for his critique, said "Technically,
it's the best thing I've seen done in Austin, and it has no soul."
There are some great scenes within, however, including the one presented
here.

I was
fortunate to have rehearsal time before shooting in order to help the
actors understand these characters. While, I would prefer some
more spontaneous work on the set given the luxury of a better budget, I
wanted to achieve as much as possible before film rolled.

Student
cinematographer Rene Penaloza-Galvan and I worked closely together with
each set – plotting all of our lighting, blocking, and camera setups in
pre-pro. Wherever possible, we minimized the impact of coverage on
the lighting scheme by rigging lights above the frame or by staying
close to the axis.
