"A dark presence has made its home in the black keep, Dol Guldur, and threatens the very existence of Lorien.  No one is safe from its evil."

direct:

This interstitial short was secretly produced for a first-playable milestone submission to impress a client's marketing department.   It was written to take advantage of existing game-resolution assets and minimize production time.  It took two artists twelve days to animate and render.

write:

I revised this from lead designer, Jamie Wiggs' first draft, to establish the central conflict that must be resolved in one mission within the game.  It essentially serves as the first act leading into the second act of game play and third act upon confronting the black heart of Dol Guldur.

edit:

As I examined early renderings from the art director, John Sommer, I manipulated timing in the edit to provide feedback for his team's next pass.  I mixed the score elements provided by our client in tandem with the edit so each could inform and influence the other.

The final cut was much reduced from the original script, culling scenes that revealed more of the Goblin camp and its denizens.  For the sake of time, John and I reduced the edit even further to the most essential shots to convey the abduction of a forest nymph.

v-o:

With little time to produce visual exposition, we relied on a quick voiced prologue.  I wrote and performed the opening monologue.

audio:

I produced the audio including;
  • mixing a score from multiple cues provided by the client
  • performing foley & vocal sfx
  • mixing everything down

tools:

animation – Maya 5
edit – Vegas 4
